FC Union Berlin Women made history in 2025 by earning promotion to the Frauen-Bundesliga for the first time, completing a remarkable journey from the lower divisions to the top flight of German women's football. The women's team was formed in September 1969, making it one of the first women's football teams in Berlin and in former East Germany. After decades in the regional leagues and a period of dissolution, the women's programme was revived and professionalized, leading to successive promotions. Union Berlin Women secured their historic promotion on 27 April 2025 with a dominant 6-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in front of over 14,000 fans at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
