Bayern champions after a thriller in Berlin

Published 3 min read

The biggest moment of the matchday came as early as Wednesday evening at the An der Alten Försterei stadium. Bayern Munich defeated newly promoted Union Berlin 3–2 and sealed the national championship.

The match began sensationally, as in the 8th minute Edna Imade put Union ahead. The home side’s joy did not last long, however: three minutes later Sophie Weidauer equalized. After the break, Bayern took the lead through Barbara Dunst, but the ambitious Union responded once again when Lia Kamber scored in the 77th minute.

Just when it seemed the Berlin newcomers would take points from the favorites, Giulia Gwinn delivered the decisive blow. Her goal in the 84th minute not only settled the match, but also officially secured the championship for Bayern. The Munich side now has 64 points and is out of reach of its rivals.

HSV with a priceless victory

On Friday, Hamburger SV took a huge step toward survival. In a direct clash between teams fighting to stay in the league, HSV won away at Nürnberg 1–0 thanks to a goal from Annaleen Böhler. This victory could prove crucial in the final reckoning.

Saturday full of drama

The wildest match of Saturday took place in Essen, where SGS defeated Carl Zeiss Jena 4–3. The home side let its lead slip several times, but ultimately claimed three points that could be enormously important in the battle for survival.

In Leipzig, RB Leipzig drew 1–1 with Werder Bremen. The result does not fully satisfy either side, but it allows both teams to maintain relative calm in mid-table.

Frankfurt sends a message, Wolfsburg in trouble

Sunday’s headline clash ended in a convincing 3–1 victory for Eintracht Frankfurt over VfL Wolfsburg. Frankfurt were clinical, confident and clearly superior, with goals from Nicole Anyomi, Erëleta Memeti and Nadine Riesen strengthening their hold on third place.

For Wolfsburg, it was a painful defeat, although second place in the table still remains secure.

Even more impressive was Bayer Leverkusen, who crushed Freiburg 4–1. From the opening minutes, the Leverkusen side imposed its terms and is increasingly making its presence felt in the race for European football.

Hoffenheim closes the matchday with a goal fest

To close out the 23rd round of fixtures, Hoffenheim put on an attacking festival, defeating Köln 6–2. It was a display of strength from one of the season’s biggest revelations. Hoffenheim, with 41 points, remains in the race for the highest objectives.

The table: champion known, everything else unanswered

Bayern can already celebrate, but behind them the battle continues on several fronts. Wolfsburg controls second place, Frankfurt defends its Champions League position, while Hoffenheim and Leverkusen have no intention of backing down.

At the bottom of the table, the situation is far more tense. Nürnberg, HSV, Essen and Jena are entering the decisive phase of the season with a knife to their throats. Every point could determine survival or relegation.

The decisive final stretch ahead

Three matchdays remain until the end of the season. The championship has already been decided, but the fight for European places and survival promises to be thrilling. Matchday 23 once again proved that the women’s Bundesliga can deliver top-level excitement.

Frauen-Bundesliga is entering the final stage of the season with momentum, and everything suggests that the best may still be yet to come.
