IK Uppsala Fotboll was established in 2016 when IK Sirius Fotboll's women's department decided to reform as an independent club. This separation allowed the women's programme to chart its own course, and the results have been impressive: IK Uppsala earned their first promotion to the Damallsvenskan in 2020, bringing top-level women's football to Sweden's fourth-largest city and historic university town. The club plays at Studenternas IP, one of Sweden's most distinctive sporting venues. Inaugurated on 21 March 1909, the stadium has a capacity of 10,522 and underwent major renovations between 2017 and 2020. The ground's location in central Uppsala, surrounded by the city's academic institutions, gives matchdays a unique atmosphere that reflects the character of this vibrant Swedish city. IK Uppsala represent a new generation of Swedish women's football clubs — independent from their parent organizations and focused exclusively on developing women's football. Despite being founded only in 2016, the club's competitive Damallsvenskan performances demonstrate the quality of their development programme and the strong footballing tradition in the Uppsala region.
