Piteå IF DFF is the women's football section of Piteå IF, a sports club founded in 1918 in the northern Swedish city of Piteå. The women's team itself was established in 1985 and competed in the lower divisions for over two decades before making their Damallsvenskan debut in 2009. What followed was one of Swedish women's football's great fairy tales: in 2018, Piteå won the Damallsvenskan title for the first time, proving that a club from Sweden's far north could compete with and beat the country's biggest teams. Piteå play at LF Arena, locally known as Kvarnvallen, a 6,000-capacity stadium that features artificial turf — essential for year-round play in the northern Swedish climate where winters are long and harsh. The stadium was renamed through a sponsorship deal with Länsförsäkringar Norrbotten in 2007. In May 2024, the club added a Svenska Cupen title to their trophy cabinet, further cementing Piteå's reputation as one of the most overachieving clubs in Swedish football relative to their market size. Competing in the Damallsvenskan from Norrbotten County — over 900 kilometers north of Stockholm — Piteå IF DFF represent the remarkable depth and geographic reach of Swedish women's football.
