The Damallsvenskan season is entering its decisive stage. Round 23 opened with powerful statements as Malmö and AIK both claimed impressive victories, and the table now looks tighter than ever before. Häcken still lead the way, but the race behind them is far from settled.
Linköping – AIK 1–4 (October 17)
AIK recorded one of their most convincing wins of the season. The Stockholm side completely dominated in Linköping, cruising to a 4–1 victory and ending their poor run of form. The result lifted AIK to seventh place, keeping them within reach of the league’s upper half. For Linköping, it was another painful setback. A team that only recently fought for medals now finds itself looking nervously toward the relegation zone.
Djurgården – Malmö FF 1–4 (October 18)
The Malmö FF newcomers once again proved that their strong position in the table is no coincidence. A confident 4–1 away win over Djurgården keeps the southern club level on points with Hammarby and firmly in the title race. Malmö continue to impress with their attacking flair and defensive discipline. This is a team that looks more mature with every round. Djurgården, on the other hand, suffered a costly defeat that pushed them out of the top four.
Alingsås IF – Växjö DFF (October 18, 16:00)
Alingsås are playing for survival. With just eight points from 22 matches, their situation is dire, and every fixture could be their last chance to stay alive. Växjö, sitting on 23 points, are also not safe yet and desperately need a result. It is a high-pressure game where nerves and composure may decide everything.
Piteå IF – Kristianstads DFF (October 19, 14:00)
A tight contest is expected in the north. Piteå are always a tough opponent at home, but Kristianstad’s consistency this season makes them slight favourites. The visitors are still chasing a top-six finish and have shown the quality to control difficult matches. Expect a battle decided by details rather than dominance.
Brommapojkarna – BK Häcken (October 19, 14:00)
Häcken have no intention of giving up the top spot. The Göteborg side hold a four-point cushion over Hammarby and Malmö and know that every point counts in the title race. BP, still fighting to avoid relegation, will try to frustrate the leaders, but the difference in quality between the sides is considerable. Anything other than an away win would be a shock.
Norrköping – Rosengård (October 19, 15:00)
Rosengård, last year’s champions, are enduring a difficult campaign. With only 18 points from 22 games, the Malmö club is far from its usual standards. Norrköping, on the other hand, play with high energy at home and are steadily building a reputation for upsetting stronger teams. The hosts will be slight favourites, though Rosengård are capable of a response.
Vittsjö – Hammarby (October 19, 16:00)
Hammarby are still in the title hunt and simply cannot afford to drop points. A victory is a must to keep pressure on Häcken. Vittsjö, however, are a dangerous side on their own pitch and will not make things easy. For the visitors, this is one of those matches that champions must win.
Summary
Round 23 of Damallsvenskan could mark the turning point of the season. Häcken remain in control, but Hammarby and Malmö are closing in fast. At the bottom, the situation looks increasingly desperate. Alingsås stand on the brink, while Linköping are fighting to avoid being dragged into the drop zone. Sunday’s fixtures may well define the season’s final stretch.
