Opening Round of the Austrian Frauenbundesliga in the Books

Published 2 min read

The long-awaited new season of the Austrian Frauenbundesliga kicked off on August 16.

The title favorites did not disappoint, as both St. Pölten and Austria Wien recorded comfortable 3–0 victories.

The reigning champions St. Pölten hosted First Vienna, a team they had lost to only once and drawn once in their last nine meetings. The favorites from Lower Austria lived up to expectations, cruising to victory.

Their main rivals for the championship, Austria Wien, also won 3–0 — this time away against Altach. The hosts were reduced to ten players as early as the 22nd minute when Eicher was shown a red card, and shortly after conceded the opening goal. From there, the visitors from Vienna controlled the game and never looked back.

In the other matches, FC Salzburg beat Kleinmünchen 2–0, Sturm Graz claimed a confident 4–1 win over LASK, and the only draw of the round came in Neulengbach vs Südburgenland (0–0).

The next round kicks off on August 23, featuring the first big clash of the season: Sturm Graz vs St. Pölten at 16:30. Follow the action live on our website and ÖFB.TV!

Season Opener Delivers

The opening round of the Austrian Admiral Frauen-Bundesliga set the tone for a competitive 2025-26 season. Austria Vienna and St. Polten, the traditional powerhouses, both opened with convincing victories demonstrating why they remain the teams to beat.

Austria Vienna’s Statement

The reigning champions made their intentions clear from the first whistle. Their squad, strengthened by targeted summer recruitment, showed depth and tactical flexibility underpinning their recent dominance.

Rising Competition

Beyond the established elite, several clubs showed promising signs that the competitive gap is narrowing. FC Salzburg, backed by Red Bull infrastructure, continue to build a program threatening the traditional order.
