Historic victory for Newcastle Jets
The biggest event of the round was Newcastle Jets’ first-ever victory over Melbourne City. The Jets triumphed 3–1 at AAMI Park, presenting themselves as the better team throughout the entire match. The goals were scored by Kelli Brown, Libby Copus-Brown, and Charlotte Lancaster, while City’s only goal came from a penalty converted by Holly McNamara. Thanks to this win, Newcastle moved up to fifth place in the table, just three points behind the leaders.

Clinical Adelaide United break a long drought
Adelaide United recorded their first win over Melbourne Victory in more than three years, winning 2–1 at Coopers Stadium. The highlight of the match was a direct goal from a corner kick (an olimpico) by Paige Zois. The victory allowed Adelaide to close the gap to the top four, with their deficit to Victory now just two points.

Wellington Phoenix take advantage of the numerical superiority
In the match against Canberra United, Wellington Phoenix struggled for a long time to break down their opponents’ defence, despite playing with a one-player advantage from the end of the first half. The decisive goals came only late on first Zoe Benson scored, before Pia Vlok sealed the 2–0 result. Wellington moved up to seventh place, while Canberra, despite the defeat, remained in second position.

Mariners rescue a point thanks to a moment of magic
Central Coast Mariners drew 1–1 with Perth Glory, even though the visitors took the lead first. A point for the Mariners was salvaged by Peta Trimis, who scored a spectacular goal directly from a corner kick. The draw allowed the Mariners to retain third place in the table, while Perth ended a run of two consecutive wins.

The table becomes increasingly tight
After Round 13, the point differences in the league are minimal. Melbourne City remain at the top, but their advantage is shrinking. Newcastle, Wellington, and Adelaide are clearly signalling their ambitions to play finals football, and the battle for places 3–8 promises to be extremely exciting in the coming weeks.
