Matchday 9 is behind us, and it only emphasized the gap between the league’s frontrunners and the teams fighting for survival. Lyon once again showed absolute dominance, PSG and Paris FC continue to keep up the pace, and Nantes is becoming more and more comfortable among the top teams. Meanwhile at the bottom, the pressure is rising, and Lens and Saint-Étienne can feel their margin for error shrinking.
It was a matchday full of crucial wins, impressive scorelines, and turning points. Here are the most important events from last weekend in France:
Olympique Marseille W – Paris SG W 1–5
Goals: 67’ Jenny Perret – 7’ Leuchter, 70’ Kanjinga, 72’ Graziani, 85’ Mbock Bathy, 90’ Morissaint
A clash between teams at opposite ends of the table ended in a show of dominance from PSG. Marseille tried to build on last week’s must-win match against Lens, but Paris set the tone from the start. An early goal shattered the hosts’ hopes, and PSG’s control left no doubts, if anyone can stop Lyon, it’s them.
Lens W – Saint-Étienne W 1–0
Goal: 30’ Aude Gbedjissi
A survival match without fireworks, but with huge importance. Lens the only team without a win so far this season, finally broke the curse. Aude Gbedjissi’s goal could prove crucial in the relegation fight. Saint-Étienne, who looked promising last week against PSG, disappointed again, sinking deeper into trouble.
Montpellier W – Nantes W 1–2
Goals: 45’ Ouchene – 4’ Khelifi (p.), 72’ Calba
Montpellier once again paid a high price for its lack of finishing. After a poor game against Paris FC, they were closer to points this time, but Nantes again showed maturity and composure. The season’s surprise package refuses to crumble under pressure, and Lucie Calba’s goal further establishes the club among the league’s top contenders. Nantes is knocking louder and louder at the doors of the elite.
Dijon W – OL Lyon W 0–3
Goals: 25’ Engen, 36’ Egurrola, 55’ Brand
Lyon continues to do what Lyon does, confidently, consistently, ruthlessly. After demolishing Strasbourg last week, they comfortably brushed aside Dijon. Not only do they win every match, they do it with ease, rotating their squad and still showing total dominance. The rest of the league can only watch the leaders from behind.
Strasbourg W – Fleury 91 W 0–3
Goals: 64’, 90’ (p.) Laurent, 83’ Cance
After their defeat to Lyon, Strasbourg tried to put up more resistance, but Fleury fully exploited their limitations. A brace from Emelyne Laurent reminded everyone that the Île-de-France side has no intention of giving up its fight for a top-five spot.
Paris FC W – Le Havre W 3–0
Goals: 24’ Boisard (og.), 47’ Picard, 57’ Garbino
After a solid win against Montpellier, Paris FC played with even greater maturity this time. Following Celestine Boisard’s own goal, the Parisians took full control and steadily extended their lead. Once again, they proved their stability and continue to pressure PSG for second place.
