Matchday 20 of the Arkema Première Ligue brought key developments that have largely clarified the standings with just two rounds left in the regular season. While some excitement still remains, many questions have already been answered, including the identity of the league leader and the full lineup of teams heading into the play-offs.
At the top of the table, Olympique Lyonnais are in a league of their own. With 56 points and an impressive 18 wins in 20 matches, Lyon have already secured first place in the regular season. Their dominance has been unquestionable, and they once again showed their strength in Matchday 20 with a commanding 4–0 win over Dijon. Heading into the decisive phase, they remain the clear favorites to win the title.
Behind them, however, the battle for positioning within the top four is still very much alive. Paris FC currently sit in second place with 42 points, closely followed by PSG with 41, while Nantes occupy fourth place with 39 points. The gaps are minimal, meaning the final order between second and fourth place will be decided in the last two matchdays. This is crucial, as seeding could play a significant role in the play-off semi-finals.
Importantly, the top four is now fully confirmed and no longer under threat. Lyon, Paris FC, PSG, and Nantes have all secured their spots in the play-offs, which will determine the French champions. This means that teams outside the top four no longer have any chance of breaking into the title race.
Fleury 91, despite their 3–1 victory over Strasbourg, are officially out of contention for a top-four finish. With 32 points, they are too far behind Nantes and have no mathematical chance of reaching the play-offs. The same applies to mid-table sides like Dijon and Strasbourg, who are safe from relegation but unable to challenge the top teams.
At the bottom of the table, the situation remains tense. Saint-Étienne and Montpellier both suffered painful defeats in this round and remain in the relegation zone with just 12 points each. Saint-Étienne, in particular, have the worst goal difference in the league, making their situation even more difficult. Montpellier, despite having more attacking potential, have also struggled for consistency and now face significant pressure heading into the final matches.
With two matchdays remaining in the regular season, the final standings are yet to be fully determined. While the league leader and the top four are already known, the race for positions two through four promises high drama. These final details could prove decisive as the teams prepare for the play-offs, where every match will count in the fight for the championship.
