Chicago Stars vs Denver Summit — NWSL Live Score

A clash of eras unfolds on Sunday when the Chicago Stars host Denver Summit at SeatGeek Stadium. This NWSL encounter pits one of the league's most enduring franchises against its newest, a compelling narrative that transcends a simple regular season fixture.

The Chicago Stars, a club with deep roots stretching back to the WPS era in 2006, represent the bedrock of American women's professional soccer. As a founding member of the NWSL in 2013, the Stars established a remarkable legacy, including an eight-year playoff streak from 2015 to 2022. This run of consistency, unmatched in league history, saw the club reach the NWSL Championship final in 2019 and become Challenge Cup runners-up in 2020. The recent $60 million acquisition by a new ownership group underscores the continued evolution of this storied institution.

Across the pitch, Denver Summit arrives as the NWSL’s latest sensation, an expansion club that burst onto the scene in 2026 with an unprecedented statement. Their home opener at Empower Field at Mile High shattered the NWSL all-time attendance record, drawing a staggering 63,004 fans. This record-setting crowd immediately cemented the Summit’s place as a force, not just in Colorado, but across the league. The club’s $110 million expansion fee, the highest in NWSL history, further highlights the ambition and investment behind this new entity. Coached by Nick Cushing, formerly of Manchester City Women, the visitors have quickly assembled a competitive roster designed to challenge from the outset.

The historical ledger between these two clubs is brief but telling. In their single previous meeting, Denver Summit emerged victorious, giving the expansion side an early edge in this nascent rivalry. This Sunday's showdown offers the Stars an opportunity to level the score and assert their long-standing pedigree against the league’s newest powerhouse. For the hosts, it is a chance to remind the NWSL of their enduring quality; for Summit, it is another opportunity to validate their bold arrival.
