Decision Day 2025: Historic Advancement for Racing Louisville, NWSL Quarterfinal Hosts Confirmed

The final matchday of the NWSL regular season delivered everything fans love about football, emotion, drama, and unforgettable moments that will be remembered for years to come. Racing Louisville secured the first playoff berth in club history, while Portland Thorns and Orlando Pride joined Kansas City Current and Washington Spirit among the teams that will host their quarterfinal matches.
It was a true festival of women’s football, full of tension, farewells, and symbolic victories.

Kansas City Current – San Diego Wave 2–1

The league leaders confirmed their dominance. After an early goal from Duda (Dudinha) for the Wave, the Current turned the game around after the break. Debinha delivered a stunning free kick, and Nichelle Prince sealed the victory for the hosts. San Diego will now travel to Portland for the quarterfinals.

Portland Thorns – Houston Dash 2–0

The Thorns started with tremendous energy. Castellanos scored in just the 3rd minute, and Fleming doubled the lead before halftime. A confident win secured third place in the standings and home advantage in the quarterfinals, where Portland will face San Diego Wave.

Racing Louisville – Bay FC 1–0

A historic night in Louisville. The hosts clinched their first-ever playoff spot thanks to a second-half goal from debutant Ella Hase. The win earned the team seventh place and a matchup with Washington Spirit. Head coach Bev Yanez made NWSL history as the first person to reach the playoffs both as a player and as a coach.

Utah Royals – Washington Spirit 1–0

With their playoff position already secured, the Spirit rested several key players. Utah took advantage, Monaghan netted her fifth goal of the season, and the Royals ended their campaign on a high note. Washington will host Racing Louisville in the quarterfinals.

North Carolina Courage – Gotham FC 3–2

Courage showed heart and determination, though the win wasn’t enough for a playoff spot. After goals from Speck and Matsukubo plus an own goal, the hosts led 3–0. Gotham responded with strikes from Lavelle and Portilho, but the loss dropped them to eighth place, meaning an away quarterfinal against Kansas City.

Chicago Stars – Angel City FC 2–1

Chicago closed the season with a win, courtesy of goals from Joseph and Schlegel. Moriya scored for Angel City. The match had a special atmosphere, it marked the farewell appearance of legends Christen Press and Ali Riley.

Orlando Pride – Seattle Reign 1–1

A draw was enough for Pride to hold onto fourth place in the standings. Pickett opened the scoring from an Ovalle assist, and Bugg quickly equalized. In the quarterfinals, Orlando will face the Reign again, this time on home turf.

Time for the Playoffs

After an exciting finish to the regular season, the full quarterfinal bracket is set. Kansas City Current, Portland Thorns, Washington Spirit, and Orlando Pride will all host their matches.
