Match Report
A chaotic start saw Portland Thorns midfielder Cassandra Bogere sent off in the 9th minute, but the home side defied the odds, securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Seattle Reign at Providence Park. Pietra Tordin netted the opener in the 28th minute, followed by Reilyn Turner who doubled the lead nine minutes later. Despite playing with ten players for most of the match, and later nine, the Thorns’ clinical finishing proved the difference. The Reign, who enjoyed significantly more possession and shots, could not find a way past Portland’s resilient defense, extending their wait for a win in Round 2 of the NWSL season.
