Deportivo de La Coruña

Deportivo Abanca is the women's football section of Deportivo de La Coruña, with roots stretching back to 1983 when the club absorbed Karbo CF, a pioneering women's team founded within a local school in the Los Mallos neighborhood of A Coruña. Under the name Karbo Deportivo, the team won Spain's earliest official women's football championships in the mid-1980s. The section was dissolved in 1988 due to the parent club's financial troubles but was revived in 2016. After earning promotion to the Primera División for the first time in 2019, experiencing relegation, and then returning to Liga F, Deportivo Abanca now splits home matches between the iconic Estadio Abanca-Riazor and the Ciudad Deportiva de Abegondo. The 2025-26 squad features midfielder Paula Gutiérrez, forward Ainhoa Marín, creative player Henar, and Marisa (on loan from Real Madrid). Carrying the 'Abanca' sponsorship name, Deportivo represents the growth of women's football in Galicia and the proud history of one of Spain's original women's football clubs.
