Pogoń Tczew and Śląsk Wrocław met in the second round of the Women’s Ekstraliga on August 16 at 1:00 PM. Anyone expecting a quiet afternoon was in for a surprise. In the first half, the hosts stunned with a 2–1 lead, but after the break the tide turned, and the visitors ran out with an emphatic 5–2 victory.
The Wrocław side showed exactly why they sit 5th in the table after just two rounds, with a goal balance of 6–4. Pogoń Tczew, on the other hand, find themselves bottom in 11th place. They’ve scored two goals but conceded six — a clear sign of their current defensive struggles.
The head-to-head record is also hard to ignore. This was Śląsk’s third straight win over Pogoń: 3–2 in March, 3–0 a year ago. Tczew’s last victory in the rivalry came in April 2024, when they edged Śląsk 2–1. Even earlier, in autumn 2023, they shocked their opponents with a 4–1 away win. This time, though, it was the Lower Silesia side who returned victorious, and five goals scored firmly set the tone between the two teams at the start of the season.
Both sides learned a lesson on Saturday: Pogoń how quickly a lead can vanish, and Śląsk that attacking power can turn around even a difficult match.
