Kansas City Current players have proven that in 2025 they have no equals. A 2–0 victory over Seattle Reign FC sealed their dominance and earned the team the prestigious NWSL Shield, awarded to the club with the best regular-season record. What’s more, the Current clinched the Shield at record speed, securing it with 5 rounds still to play. Their 17–2–2 record speaks for itself: consistency, efficiency, and footballing quality from the first to the last match.
Winning the Shield means not only prestige for the Current, but also significant benefits. The club will enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed and enjoy home-field advantage in the quarterfinal. Their first obstacle, the eighth-seeded team, will face the Current on the weekend of November 7–9. Then come the semifinals (November 14–16), with the grand season finale set for November 22 in San Jose.
The entire NWSL football world will be watching PayPal Park, where the Current will try to seal the championship. Playoff matches will be broadcast on major American networks, with the final shown live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
Behind the scenes, sponsors have played a role in the success story. CarMax has for several years contributed to the Shield prize, while the league ensures a fitting presentation in partnership with brands such as Tiffany & Co. This shows how dynamically the NWSL is growing and how women’s football is gaining increasing recognition in the United States.
Kansas City Current has already made history by winning the Shield faster than any team before. But now comes their biggest test: the playoffs and the battle for the coveted 2025 NWSL Championship.
