NWSL Week 6 of the NWSL was pure “all gas, no brakes”, goals came fast, games opened up early, and the intensity stayed high from midweek through the weekend. It was a week full of momentum swings and statement performances.
The biggest winners? Washington Spirit and Portland Thorns, who both won their two matches and now sit at the top of the table. Washington is on a serious run, unbeaten in six games and looking complete in every phase. Trinity Rodman continues to shine, delivering goals and assists, while Sofia Cantore made history with the fastest brace from kickoff in league history. On top of that, goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has been outstanding, setting club records for consecutive clean sheet minutes and even saving a penalty.
Portland matched that level with two strong performances of their own. Their win over San Diego was especially important, stopping one of the hottest teams in the league. The Thorns look balanced and confident, with Sophia Wilson finding the net again and Olivia Moultrie delivering a historic performance, becoming just the second player in NWSL history to record a goal and assist in her 100th regular season match.
On the other side, San Diego Wave has lost momentum. After a five-game winning streak, they suffered back-to-back losses and failed to score in both matches. A team that looked unstoppable just a week ago now has questions to answer.
Elsewhere, Gotham FC continues to impress defensively with multiple clean sheets and consistent results, while Utah Royals are one of the hottest teams right now, building a strong winning streak. Kansas City Current also bounced back with a much-needed victory thanks to a strong first-half performance.
Individually, the Golden Boot race is heating up. Ashley Sanchez remains in top form, while Barbra Banda continues to score in bunches and push ahead in the race.
And finally – the game of the week. Boston Legacy vs Denver Summit (3:2) delivered pure drama. Boston came from behind twice and won it in stoppage time, securing their first-ever club victory in unforgettable fashion.
