The twelfth matchday of Spain’s Liga F delivered exactly what was expected after last week’s thrilling series of games: strong responses from the favourites, surprises in top-table clashes, and clear signals from the lower half of the standings. Barcelona reaffirmed their absolute dominance, Real Madrid got back on track, Tenerife confirmed their outstanding form, and Athletic Bilbao produced one of the most impressive performances of the season.
As usual, there was no shortage of drama, from big wins to late twists and decisive penalty goals.
Barcelona ruthless against Levante! 4:0 and full control from the leaders
The preview for Matchday 12 included a clear message: “Barcelona are heading for another three points. Levante need a miracle.”
There was no miracle.
The Spanish champions played with relentless consistency and confidence, and the 4:0 scoreline actually flatters Levante considering Barcelona’s dominance. Ewa Pajor opened the scoring in the 14th minute after a through ball from Vicky López, and in the 29th minute Patri Pina doubled the lead from the penalty spot. After the break, Barcelona simply completed the job – Nazareth scored, and Alexia Putellas added another penalty.
Barcelona confirm what we saw in the El Clásico the week before, they are a class above the entire league.
Real Madrid bounce back after the El Clásico defeat! 3:0 against Eibar
After the painful 0:4 loss to Barcelona on Matchday 11, the pressure on Real Madrid was enormous. Their response? One of their most assured wins of the season.
Caroline Weir once again made the difference the Scot scored twice to set the tone. Gálvez Luna added the third. Real dominated throughout, barely allowing Eibar anything. It was not only a must-win match but an important signal that the team doesn’t collapse after difficult moments.
Match of the Week: Tenerife – Atlético 2:1. The Canary Islands triumph again
This was expected to be the most intriguing match of the weekend and it fully lived up to expectations. Tenerife immediately imposed their intensity, clearly surprising Atlético.
Goals from Verges and Amani put the hosts 2:0 up, and they held firm despite Atlético’s late strike for 2:1. After several strong weeks and a win over Badalona, Atlético were unable to take control this time.
Athletic Bilbao demolish Granada – 5:1. The most spectacular performance of the round
Nobody expected such a dominant result. Boosted by their draw with Real Sociedad on Matchday 11, Athletic stepped onto the pitch full of confidence and completely overpowered Granada.
Azkona and Elexpuru each scored twice, while Vilaboa capped the scoring. Granada managed only one goal in response but were clearly the weaker team, physically and tactically.
The biggest surprise and the clearest show of strength of Matchday 12.
Real Sociedad – Alhama 3:1. Solidity combined with maturity
After their dramatic derby draw last week, Real Sociedad needed to get back to winning ways and they did so without much trouble.
Ramírez opened the scoring in the early minutes, Eizagirre added a penalty, and Imade sealed the victory after the break. Alhama fought bravely but were simply too weak to expect more than a consolation goal.
Sevilla – Deportivo 3:1. Stability from the hosts, no ideas from the newcomers
Previews suggested this could be one of the most evenly matched games of the round. In reality, it wasn’t. Sevilla were more mature, quicker in their buildup, and more efficient in exploiting space.
Gabarro scored twice and was the standout player on the pitch. Deportivo, despite last week’s win over Levante, couldn’t keep up with Sevilla’s tempo.
Other matches
Madrid CFF – Logroño 1:0
The hosts dominated from the start, but poor finishing nearly cost them. A penalty converted by Monica in the 90th minute finally secured the win. Madrid CFF remain close to the top places.
Badalona – Espanyol 1:1
A derby exactly as expected, fast, open, and evenly matched. Pinillos gave Badalona the lead, Espanyol equalised after the break. A fair result.
Players of the Week
Ewa Pajor (Barcelona) – opened the scoring, constant threat, dominant in the box
Caroline Weir (Real Madrid) – two goals, total control of midfield
Azkona (Athletic) – brilliant performance, pace and precision
Gabarro (Sevilla) – a double and full command in attack
Verges & Amani (Tenerife) – decisive in the big win over Atlético
