Tigres Femenil once again made their mark in the history of Mexican women’s football. After a 1–0 victory over América in the second leg of the final, ending with an aggregate score of 4–3, the team from San Nicolás de los Garza claimed the Apertura 2025 championship, securing their seventh title in Liga MX Femenil.
The hero of the evening was Diana Ordoñez, who capitalized on a defensive mistake by the opponents and scored the only goal of the match. This strike ultimately decided the championship.
A rivalry that has become tradition
Finals between Tigres and América have become a regular feature of Mexican women’s football, and once again the Amazonas emerged victorious. This is already the third final in which Tigres defeated América, following their titles in Apertura 2022 and 2023.
For América’s head coach, Ángel Villacampa, it is another painful final. The Spanish manager has now lost five decisive matches with the club, winning only once in Clausura 2023.
Match summary
Tigres imposed their tempo from the very beginning. Within the first minutes they created danger near América’s goal, and their dominance in possession and aggressive pressing paid off in the 20th minute. A disastrous back pass from Annie Karich fell straight to Ordoñez, who calmly finished the one on one situation.
América attempted to respond, but lacked precision. First, Irene Guerrero’s shot went straight into the hands of Tigres’ goalkeeper, Cecilia Santiago, and moments later a powerful strike from Nancy Antonio crashed off the crossbar.
In the second half, the situation for the team from Coapa became even more complicated. In the 58th minute, Nancy Antonio was shown a red card after a foul on Jenni Hermoso following a VAR review, which severely limited América’s offensive possibilities.
Tigres could have increased their lead. Ordoñez had two good chances but she lacked a bit of accuracy. In the closing minutes, América made one last attempt to find an equalizer, but Santiago was alert and saved a dangerous shot from Scarlett Camberos.
Dominance confirmed
The triumph in Apertura 2025 is another chapter in the success story of Tigres Femenil. The club holds championships from Clausura 2018 and 2019, Guardianes 2020, Clausura 2021, as well as three titles in the last four Apertura tournaments 2022, 2023 and 2025.
The Amazonas have once again proven that their success is no coincidence, but the result of consistent work, stability and a continuously high sporting level.
