Liverpool Sign Vivien Endemann on Free Transfer From Wolfsburg

Published 2 min read

Liverpool have agreed to sign Vivien Endemann on a free transfer from VfL Wolfsburg, with the 24-year-old German international set to arrive on July 1.

This is genuinely sharp business from Liverpool. Endemann is a right winger who can also operate on the left, she has 17 senior Germany caps with three goals to her name, and she helped the national team to an Olympic bronze medal in Paris. That profile, on a free, is hard to argue with.

Her numbers at Wolfsburg this season tell the story concisely: three goals and three assists in eight Frauen-Bundesliga starts. She also scored in Wolfsburg’s 5-2 demolition of Manchester United in the Champions League last November, so WSL defences are not unfamiliar territory.

There is a question of why Wolfsburg let her go. Endemann spent three seasons at the club, and their silence on the departure is notable. But players leaving on expiring contracts is now routine across both the Bundesliga and the WSL, and at 24, Endemann is entering her peak years with something to prove in a new league.

Liverpool needed more cutting edge in wide areas. They got a German international with Champions League pedigree for nothing. The only real debate here is whether Endemann starts from day one or needs time to adjust to the WSL’s physicality. Given what she did to United in November, she should be fine.
