The new 2025/26 Serie A Women season kicks off on the weekend of October 4–5. This year is special, as for the first time in history the league has expanded from 10 to 12 teams. Parma, Ternana, and Genoa join the elite and will be eager to prove their worth against the very best.
At the front of the favorites’ pack, of course, is Juventus the reigning champions and winners of the Serie A Women’s Cup. Inter will try once again to mount a challenge, while AS Roma will be looking to make up for their loss in the Women’s Cup final.
The opening round already brings several very intriguing clashes.
Saturday, October 4
12:30 | AS Roma – Parma
Roma, last season’s third-place finishers and fresh off a 2–3 defeat to Juventus in the Women’s Cup final, open at home against newcomers Parma. It’s a must-win test for the Giallorosse’s attacking power. Parma may not stand much chance here but will fight hard to gain valuable experience.
12:30 | Inter – Ternana
Runners-up Inter begin against debutants Ternana. The Nerazzurre need to show they can consistently collect points against supposedly weaker opponents. Ternana, with the enthusiasm of a promoted side, won’t give in easily, but there’s only one clear favorite.
15:00 | Napoli – Fiorentina
Napoli come off a disastrous seasonjust 10 points and second-to-last in the table. Now they must rebuild. Fiorentina, aiming for the upper half of the standings, arrive as favorites. This match will show whether Napoli have learned their lessons from last year.
18:30 | Sassuolo – Juventus
The champions’ opening game! Juventus, fresh from winning both the Scudetto and the Women’s Cup, travel to Sassuolo. The hosts are a solid side, but stopping the Old Lady will be a huge task. Juventus will want to send a strong early message: “We’re coming for more trophies.”
Sunday, October 5
12:30 | Como – Lazio
Two sides battling for survival. Como will rely on home support, while Lazio hope for a stronger start than last season. A crucial game right from the beginning, a draw won’t satisfy either team.
15:00 | Genoa – AC Milan
Serie A debut for Genoa! Their very first match is a massive test against Milan. The Rossonere had an inconsistent season last year but have the stronger squad and aim higher. For Genoa, it’s a historic and festive day, but points will be very hard to come by.
Summary
The opening round is a mix of “guaranteed three points” for favorites (Juventus, Inter, Roma), but also psychologically significant clashes (Como – Lazio, Napoli – Fiorentina). Among the newcomers, Genoa face the toughest challenge, while Sassuolo vs. Juventus may deliver the most excitement.
The season is only just beginning, but it’s already clear that the race for the Scudetto will be thrilling, Juventus defending, Inter and Roma chasing, and the promoted teams hoping to shake things up. Serie A Women 2025/26 promises to be a unique edition, bigger, tougher, and full of new stories waiting to be written.
