Dominant England and a high victory over Wales at Euro 2025

It was a spectacle that British fans will not forget for a long time! The England national team defeated Wales 6-1 in a UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 group-stage match, thereby securing the long-awaited advancement to the quarter-finals. A wonderful atmosphere reigned at the Kybunpark stadium in Swiss St. Gallen. The English women gave a real football show and confirmed that their dreams of the European championship are entirely possible.

From the first whistle it was clear who would take control of the match. The English women entered the game with enormous verve, quickly taking the initiative. The key moment was the action in the 13th minute, when Georgia Stanway fell to the turf after a foul by Carrie Jones. The referee initially had doubts, but the VAR system confirmed unequivocally: a penalty kick.. The fouled Stanway stepped up to the spot and, with a confident shot into the left corner, opened the scoring. After that event the match progressed at lightning speed.

The Welsh defence literally fell apart, and the next goals for the “Lionesses” were scored in turn by Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo. By the break the English women were leading by four goals. The psychological advantage they gained after opening the score freed them from stress; they played lightly, quickly and imaginatively.

In the second half Wales tried to fight, but the English team showed class, adding two more goals. Near the end of the match the consolation goal for Wales was scored by Hannah Cain.

Coach Sarina Wiegman once again proved why she is considered one of the best coaches in women’s football. The tactics of the England team were well thought-out. She focused above all on quick and dynamic wing attacks. Key roles were played by Lauren James and Lucy Bronze, who perfectly used the width of the pitch, creating constant danger in front of the opponents’ goal.

The centre of the pitch was controlled by Georgia Stanway and Keira Walsh, who superbly launched attacks, created chances and calmed the game in the most nervous moments. As a result, England completely dominated Wales in every element of the game.

The Welsh tried to find a way to stop the Lionesses’ offensive, but the defence was not ready for such pace and dynamism. Wales’s game plan collapsed immediately after the first goal, and England mercilessly exploited every weakness of their opponents.

For England the victory meant even more than just three points. In a group with such strong rivals as France and the Netherlands, this win was necessary for qualification. More importantly, the English showed Europe that they are real contenders for the title.

Wales themselves, although they will finish the tournament at the group stage, showed ambition and fighting spirit in previous matches, and one weaker game does not negate the team’s efforts in the entire qualification campaign and the final stage itself.

England’s high victory, broadcast across the continent, is another step on the road to popularising women’s football. Matches with many goals, in which the players display excellent conditioning and technical preparation, are the best advertisement for this discipline. All the stations that covered the match recorded record viewing figures, and euphoria comparable to the successes of the men’s national team reigned in England.

There is no denying that the current Lionesses have all the tools to win the hearts of the English and raise women’s football to an even higher level of popularity. Individuals such as Stanway, Hemp and Russo are currently role models for young girls beginning their adventure with the ball.

In the quarter-final England will face the extremely demanding Swedish national team. It certainly will not be an easy match, but the English have already shown that under pressure they can bring out the best in themselves. They emerged from the group with heads held high and are certainly hoping for success in the later stages of the tournament.

Women’s Euro 2025 is gaining momentum, emotions are growing, and the stakes are getting higher. One thing is certain: at this level every minute of the match will be filled with great excitement.

Britons can be proud of their women’s team, which with each successive match strengthens its position among the European elite.
